I have been dealing digestive issues for about 6 years. For me, my symptoms ( severe acid in my stomach, lack of bowel movements, helatious gas that is highly embarassing) seem to come and go at times. They were more consistent and horrible several years ago. They didn't seem to be tied to what I ate ( though I do eat quite a bit of gas producing veggies... I'd remove them and the symptoms didn't go away).
I tried accupuncture with a medical doctor. ( I originally went to him for back pain relief. When he asked me if i had any other conditions that might pertain, I told him of my stomach problems. He informed me that your stomach produces anti-inflammatories that would have given me relief for my back and helpd in the reduction of swelling generating my pain. If your stomach bacteria is unbalanced, it can't do that job. You must work to create that balance in your stomach before seeing back pain relief). He did relieve some symptoms with my stomach issues, but it was a long haul. We tried holistic supplements (to achieve that balance) and accupuncture treatments.
After a year of seeing some imrovements, but not complete resolutions, I went to a gastroenterologist for an opinion. He told me that I just needed to" sit on the toilet at the same time everyday because people forget to go..." I was angered by his flipid, dismissive advice. I continued with accupuncture for as long as I could afford it ( it's not covered by insurance). I quit about 2 years ago. During that time I consulted a nutitionist about my dietary influences. I was tested for food allergies, but no red-flags surfaced.
Today my stomach is okay ( though of course after I wrote this it shockingly started acting up again...go figure). I do eat 0 % Greek yogurt, and I take a prescribed stool softner. I can't pinpoint why some of my issues were relieved any more than I can accuratly predict when they will flare back up.
I raise this issue to share that even when you follow a clean eating diet, exercise and see health professionals to monitor health problems, sometimes there is no quick fix. I deal with the symptoms when they flare up, and go on with my day; clean eating, working out, and taking care of my family. Day-to-day, it's the best I can do.
